Good morning fellow homeschool-curriculum browsers. I know my site offers tons of free and cheap ideas for homeschooling, but I bet some of you (just like me) like to use pre-packaged curriculum as well. How many of us have bought that perfect curriculum to only find out that it didn’t work for you or your children. Either it was too parent involved (or not enough) or too frustrating for your children, or possibly worse: it bored you to death. So, there it sits unfinished, collecting dust on your shelves?
Throughout the years, I have found that there are good sites out there: Sites that do an excellent job at reviews. So with that in mind here are a few sites that I trust and then what follow are some other suggestions that you may not have thought to try.
My favorite site to this day:
http://www.homeschoolreviews.com/
This site holds real reviews from real people. The parents actually tell you what they did and did not like about the product. There is also a wonderful forum dedicated to helping out families in all types of situations. This is alway the site I head to first when I am thinking about trying something new.
This next site is well known to most:
http://cathyduffyreviews.com/
What I like about Kathy Duffy is that she organizes by subject and gives a review of the curriculum and also includes the level of participation that the parent would have with each product. She also sugests what type of personality the child would need to have in order to stick to the product. She adds products all the time, so keep her linked too.
This one I've not used much, but it seems to have some video reviews as wells a written reviews:
http://www.homeschool.com/Top10/Top10Reviews.asp
Okay, so there are three to get you started. But, that's not all. How about YouTube? Have you tried to search for the product or write homeschool reviews into YouTube yet?
I got over 39,000 when I put "homeschool reviews" into the search box:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=homeschool+reviews
If you want to narrow it down add the name of the product and presto!
Another fabulous idea is to email the company and ask for a sample. Many companies even have a link just for this on their sites. But, if they don't email them and ask. Most are very willing to provide you some sort of visual(some even mail you a portion.
Do you not have much time to homeschool, but you really want to? Too busy? Are you? Feeling overwhelmened? Then try starting out with Easy Peasy homeschool. It is as hands off as you can get and very thorough. On top of it is is free (but, you can donate if you want):
https://allinonehomeschool.com/
And of course my favorite site:
https://www.amblesideonline.org/
Ambleside is easier to use than you may think. It just takes time to adjust. There is a very helpful forum and YouTube videos available to help you get started.
Have a blessed day ~LuAnne
